Welcome to the Winter 2026 edition of Fortec’s InFocus magazine showcasing some of our latest projects and company news.
\nFortec has continued to diversify its operations and in the last financial year has started a dedicated Remedial Division focusing on the rehabilitation and strengthening of concrete structures. We are well into our first project at Berths B&C for Fremantle Ports and actively pursuing a number of other opportunities for this division.
\nWe have also just achieved our Federal Safety accreditation thanks to the hard work of Joanne Preece and Ted Simpson and this has opened up opportunities on federally funded projects.
\nOther key achievements in the last 12 months include the completion of our first slope stabilisation project in NSW and following on from the success of this project we have been awarded another 2 slope stabilisation projects for TfNSW.
\nCongratulations to Harsha & the NSW team in recently securing their largest project to date for the Design and Construction of 2 bridges for the Singleton Council one of which will be a 3 span cable stay footbridge.

Each month, Fortec hosts a site BBQ meeting at the B and C Berth worksite in conjunction with the toolbox meeting. This brings together our team, client representatives, and senior management to review project progress, as well as safety and environmental performance.
\nAs part of this initiative, we also recognise outstanding contributions through our monthly Safety and Performance Award.

Fortec worked alongside Main Roads WA to complete urgent repairs to Bridge 0891.
\nOur team implemented a single-lane closure under shuttle flow while Main Roads provided their Under Bridge Inspection Unit (UBIU), allowing safe access to the underside of the structure.
\nThis was the first time Fortec has had the opportunity to utilise the UBIU and it was a great example of contractor and client working together to deliver safe and efficient bridge maintenance.

\nThe scope comprises demolition and replacement of sections of the berth deck and superstructure, including pile repairs and concrete deck replacement, alongside management of heritage elements including removal of historic bollards and railway, and protection of the B Shed structure, built in 1927.
These works extend the service life of the facility while enhancing structural capacity to meet future demands. Engineered for a minimum 25-year design life, the upgraded structure achieves deck load ratings of Class 15 for the B and C Berths, and Class 10 for the B Shed deck.
\nBy prioritising reuse of existing piles and structural elements where practicable, the design supports long-term performance while reducing material use and promoting sustainable outcomes.

Fortec is currently undertaking a timber bridge maintenance and repair project for MRWA across 13 timber bridges within the Great Southern Region of WA. The scope of works includes pier and abutment pile repairs, rock protection works, abutment repairs, corbel and stringer replacements, along with various other structural maintenance activities aimed at extending the service life and structural integrity of the bridges.

\nMacquarie Pass presents challenging geotechnical conditions, with steep cut batters and highly weathered rock and soil profiles requiring ongoing stabilisation to protect this key transport corridor. The works involve the installation of soil nails, horizontal drainage and a shotcrete-lined catch drain, together with erosion control matting and a high-strength steel mesh facing system anchored by soil nails and vertical bar anchors. In September, Fortec carried out the final launch, lowering, and tilt of the Stirling Bus Bridge, followed by the grouting of the permanent bearings in November.
\nThis technically challenging project marked several key achievements on both bridges, including: 30 launched segments, 4 slide operations, lowering operations, tilt operations, 50 permanent bearings grouted.
\nUsing equipment acquired through Fortec’s international partnership with MK4, this project marked Fortec’s first use of the Eberspächer Lift and Push System, a significant milestone for the company.
\nThis success is a testament to the dedication and expertise of everyone involved. A great team effort ensured the project was delivered safely and efficiently.
