Wheatbelt Bridge Works

Project Overview

Fortec was engaged by Main Road Western Australia to undertake works on three bridges across the Wheatbelt, with a further four awarded as Variations.

The works included Replacement of Structure 4046 with an RCP Culvert in Calingiri; major timber and concrete repair works to Structure 4031 in Chittering and Structure 4399 in Northam; and as a variation some surfacing and concrete repairs to Bridge 0020A in Williams; pier replacements on Bridge 0410 in Quindanning (Williams) and temporary propping works and other miscellaneous repairs to Bridges 0412 and 0414 in Williams.

Scope of Works

  • Structure No. 4046, Calingiri
    • Construction of a side track, and removal at the end of the works
    • Demolition of existing bridge
    • Earthworks and installation of 12No. 1050 diameter RCP’s including end treatments
    • Rock protection at inlets, outlets and grouted at spoon drains
    • Pavements and sealing
    • Installation of new guard railing
  • Structure No. 4399, Northam
    • Earthworks
    • Timber repairs such as pile pots, pile bands, and epoxy repairs
    • Waler and Pier replacements
    • Approach slab microbeam
    • Pavement and surfacing
  • Structure No. 4031, Chittering
    • Removal of all timber halfcaps and fullcaps
    • Installation of PFC halfcaps and fullcaps
    • Pile bands
    • Abutment pile replacements
  • Structure No. 0020A, Albany Highway, Williams
    • Installation of temporary barriers
    • Profile section of asphalt at the center of bridge for the entire length
    • Seal the underside of bridge, then seal the topside deck with epoxy
    • Replace asphalt and line marking
    • Earthworks and rock pitching under entire bridge
    • Replacement of end terminal and tightening or other anchor cables
  • Structure No. 0414 and 0412, Williams
    • Construction of bearing pads
    • Install temporary propping to various corbels and halfcaps
    • Miscellaneous repairs – Type 5 and Type 3 Bearing Repairs, Welding brackets, install stabilised sand drainage channel
  • Structure No. 0410, Quindanning (Williams)
    • Pile pot repairs and Pile replacements
