The existing Brooking Channel Bridge structure was a single lane bridge and the team is currently replacing it with a dual lane bridge to improve the region’s supply chain resilience, enhance road safety, and provide ongoing employment opportunities for the Fitzroy Valley region.
The Fitzroy Bridge Alliance, working in partnership with Main Roads Western Australia, replaced the Brooking Channel Bridge and engaged Fortec to provide their specialist Incremental bridge launching expertise for the construction of the new bridge, following on from the successful completion of the new Fitzroy River Bridge in 2023.
The new bridge was constructed using the Incrementally Launched Method of bridge construction and the superstructure consisted of a composite steel girder with reinforced concrete deck bridge with typically 35.3m spans.
The piers were constructed using precast concrete external shells with insitu reinforced concrete poured inside. The piers were founded on reinforced concrete bored piles. The construction method and design were optimised to minimise the construction time of this important piece of road infrastructure.
